The Whosoever Will Christian Church, was founded on December 10, 1995 by Rev. Joseph Samuel Reeves. Originally, the church was known as the “Whosoever Will Baptist Church”. The founding Pastor. Rev. Samuel Reeves together with 16 members including our current pastor Rev. Dr. J. Edwin Lloyd Jr. gathered for the first time at the Wheaton High School and held the very first worship service.
Through the grace of God, Whosoever Will Christian Church was incorporated on June 29, 1999. Under the leadership of Dr. William Chris Hobgood, the then Regional Minister of the Christian Church Capitol Area Region and with the assistance of Rev. Eugene Randall of the Board of Church extension, Disciples of Christ, we acquired the property at 4514 Sellman Road, Beltsville, Maryland, our present church home. The Capital area Region of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, has been a major supporter of this church over the years. Praise be to God for our current Regional Minister Rev. Lari Grubbs for his continuous support.
Rev. Dr. Sylvanus G. Bent succeeded Rev. Samuel Reeves and was installed as Pastor on September 28, 2003. Great improvements were made to the property and the grounds during his tenure as Pastor. Based on his desire to serve God, Dr. Bent made personal sacrifices towards the upkeep of this church including serving for three years without receiving salary. Dr. Bent together with his wife was a great blessing to the Whosoever Will Family. He retired during the later part of August 2006 to concentrate on publishing.
Rev. Dr. J. Edwin Lloyd, Jr. succeeded Rev. Dr. Sylvanus G. Bent and was installed as Pastor on November 19, 2006. The Whosoever Will Christian Church is currently on course with its mission to be a visible expression of an all-inclusive gospel. Through its transportation, Pantry, teaching, pastoral counseling and community service ministries our congregation has managed to touch the hearts and minds of God’s people.
It is our prayer that the Holy Spirit who is the dispenser of spiritual gifts, will enrich our ministry in the ensuing years.
